Faculty Coalition for Disability Rights at UC Berkeley

Article I – Name

The name of this organization is Faculty Coalition for Disability Rights at UC Berkeley. The organization’s acronym is “FCDR.”

Article II – Purpose

The Faculty Coalition for Disability Rights advocates for disability rights at the University of California, Berkeley. With membership drawn from all faculty ranks, the Coalition’s mission is to advance the civil rights of people with disabilities on our campus so that they may enjoy full and equal participation in all aspects of the university.

Article III – Membership

Membership is open to all faculty at UC Berkeley, including senate faculty and lecturers. Emeritus faculty may also be members.

Membership dues shall be in the amount of $10 for a 5-year membership. Dues are payable via FCDR’s website.

We will not restrict membership based upon race, color, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, pregnancy (including childbirth, and medical conditions related to pregnancy or childbirth), physical or mental disability, medical condition (cancer related or genetic characteristics), ancestry, marital status, age, sexual orientation, citizenship, or service in the uniformed services (including membership, application for membership, performance of service, application for service, or obligation for service in the uniformed services).

Article IV – Officers & Elections

FCDR Officers are President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. These four officers constitute the Executive Committee.

President: Presides over FCDR activities; runs coalition meetings; represents FCDR as a whole, and is responsible for making sure all officers are performing their duties.

Vice President: Assists the president; presides over coalition meetings in the absence of the president; obtains ideas from members and passes them onto the officers; is involved in membership development; assumes the role and responsibilities of the president in the event that the president is no longer able to full-fill his/her duties.

Secretary: The secretary shall be responsible for keeping the organization’s written records including its constitution, minutes of meetings, and records of decisions made.

Treasurer: The treasurer shall be responsible for collecting membership dues, keeping membership records up to date, and providing annual reports on the organization’s finances to the Executive Committee.

Officers will be nominated and voted by majority of the members. When there is a need for replacement of an officer, a call for nominations will go to the membership. Elections will occur in October.

Officers will serve for three years. Positions can be renewed for an additional two cycles.

The President is the primary contact. The Executive Committee members are the organization’s signatories.

Officers can be removed by majority consent of the Executive Committee.

Article V – Meetings

The Executive Committee of FCDR will meet four times a year. The President and/or Vice

President will call the meetings. A quorum for the Executive is 3 of 4 officers.

A meeting that is open to all members will be held once per year, called by the President. A quorum for that meeting for the purposes of decision-making (motions and voting) must have 3⁄4 of the membership present.

Article VI – Constitutional Amendments

Amendments can be proposed by any member of the organization and will be considered and reviewed by the Executive Committee.

Article VII – Dissolution

Dissolution will be decided by unanimous vote of the members of the Executive Committee.

Upon dissolution, any unspent funds will be donated to Disability Rights Advocates.
